you can see this whole area, 54th and central still blocked off, still under investigation. more when it becomes available. ashley yore, abc action news. this is days after another tragedy in the bay area. we're still waiting for information about funeral arraignments for hillsborough deputy john kotfila who died early saturday morning after a wrong way driver hit his patrol car. coming up at 6:30 we hear from his sister. right now we want to check with janelle, who has a traffic bridges. that's right. the westbound lanes of the court courtney campbell causeway are closed now due to a wrong way crash. cars are still getting on to head westbound, not sure if they are going to be stuck on the bridge or if police are letting them scoot around it. we're told the westbound lanes are shut down while they investigate and work to clear the crash. let's look at the maps, you can see the red, that means that the solid red means that the lanes are closed, either take

the howard frankland from hillsborough to pinellas or take hillsborough through tampa road through oldsmar. that might be quicker for you. the gandy bridge moving great as well. we'll keep you posted as to when that bridge opens back up. elsewhere in the bay area we're in great shape on the interstates, in the green, i-4 and i-75 into tampa. 275 over in pinellas county from bridge to bridge. ivan, we just made it this weekend, weather was pretty good. a little sticky now. >> yes, and a lot of clouds. i'm glad it's mostly cloudy though because what happened is folks heading from pinellas to tampa would bump into a sunrise that they are not used to this time of morning. we're talking about sunrise at 7:40. it's going to change things up here. so the overcast skies will help but keep in mind we have a different situation this morning. but the sunrise at 7:40. there is the stream of moisture coming in.

we had showers and storms late yesterday. this is what is left over, not much as far as any heavy downpours but we'll continue to track this as theyen to head from southwest to northeast. st. pete beach getting in on that as well. that will continue as we head through the next several hours. really through midday, we have this little narrow band of moisture coming in, that will impact pinellas, eventually hillsborough counties. hour by hour forecast taking us into the 70s and then eventually we're back in the 80s with muggy conditions. we'll break down the rest of the forecast for this coming week in a few minutes. democracy 2016 -- gop frontrunner donald trump is heading to tampa today and we'll be watching to see if things get out of control ahead of the primary tomorrow. trump is under fire now because of violence that happened at his rallies over the weekend. again our state is very important because it's a winner take all primary, 99 republican delegates are up for grabs.

the billionaire is hoping for a victory here and hoping it will spell the end of senator marco rubio's struggling campaign. trump will be holding a town hall style event at the tampa convention center. it's to begin at 2:00. police are closing franklin street at 8:00 a.m. to prepare for his arrival. we will live stream the event if you can't make it. the numbers are in favor of trump in the sunshine state. here's a look here. coming up on 6:11. look at this massive traffic jam in raleigh, north carolina. troopers worked throughout the night trying to clear dozens of cars from a major interstate there. they tell us nearly 100 vehicles were involved in a series of accidents along i-40 shutting down the interstate for hours and sending more than 20 people to hospitals. we're told wet roads might have played a role in causing the first crash. then rubbernecking likely made that problem worse when more cars started crashing into each other. we could learn today if two suspects will be charged after police officers shot dead in a maryland suburb just outside the nation's capital. the prince george's county county police chief says the attack that killed an officer was unprovoked and there was an ambush. he says the 28-year-old was shot going about his business. at the station sunday afternoon. when bullets started to fly.

people in tampa are helping victims left with nothing after a weekend of deadly flooding in the deep south. this morning more than 1,000 people along the gulf coast

we're in pretty good shape. gusty by the way. we'll have the breeze and the humidity, it's quite muggy so we have temperatures now pretty summer-like in the upper 60s to lower 70s but the humidity is also cranked up. dew points, we have not seen this in a while. in fact yesterday we were in the low 70s. i don't think we've done that so far this year. there's the scale. once again above 60 starts to get more humid. 65, that is muggy. 70, oppressive. this is important because with temperatures in the low to mid- 80s today we're going to have a heat index, it will feel quite sultry with temperatures in the 80s. so quite a preview of summer, no question bit as temperatures continue the next few days in the low 80s. so this morning, showers give way to drier conditions through the middle part of the week. a weak boundary moving through mid-week. that won't bother us but the weekend starts looking iffy with the next front coming, in may linger and stall on us through the weekend with showers and thunderstorms.

right now two bay area police officers and six young people are in the hospital after a stolen car slammed into the officers' undercover pickup truck. you're looking live at the scene now off central avenue in st. pete. those officers were working undercover as parts of a special task force set up to stop young people from stealing cars when this accident happened. one officer we're hearing is from tampa, the other from st. pete. we're also hearing two of the six young people injured? the crash were transported as trauma alert patients. we're making phone calls now, trying to find out exactly how badly they were injured. all we know now is the driver is 25, the youngest person in that car is 15. we'll continue to monitor the

i'll tell but that in a moment. but they caught a light pole so it's taking up one lane eastbound. one and i getting by, almost two mile backup coming towards tampa. going towards clearwater via the courtney campbell? you're going to be turned around way back by the beach there, at the light past davis. so be aware of that when you see the emergency vehicles. they are going to turn you around. eastbound you can get through, i would go across tampa road, hillsborough avenue or the howard frankland bridge, much better option. here's ivan with the forecast. it's so dark out there. we usually have first light by now but that won't happen for a while. in fact sunrise 7:41. so we have a ways to go. we have showers that are continuing to move north and east. moving rather rapidly. you can see the moisture coming into pinellas and eventually hillsborough. we'll continue to track this. nothing too heavy, certainly no thunderstorms but enough where you can see wet roads impacting st. pete. there you see the sky, we begin

john kotfila filled in the line of duty. now funeral arrangements are being made to put him to rest. abc action news reporter corey dierdorff joins you live from the fallen officer memorial in ybor city with the latest. the sister is opening up about her brother this morning. corey? >> reporter: yeah. good morning. about 15 minutes ago we saw one of the new recruit classes from the hillsborough county sheriff's office come on their morning run, come through the fallen officer memorial and slowly march in front of that flag that is at half-staff for fallen officer john kotfila. his family now working to finalize funeral arrangesments after learning about the horrific crash that took his life over the weekend. we're trying to figure out what caused the driver to travel the wrong way down the selmon expressway early saturday morning before slamming into the deputy's cruiser. the sheriff's office saying there's been an outpouring of support from law enforcement agencies and communities all over the country. deputy kotfila comes from a family of law enforcement officers. his family was a sergeant with

officers say the victim is not being very cooperative. they found him on west francis avenue but he apparently was shot some place else. paramedics arrived soon and took him to the hospital. police say he's not saying where or even when he got shot. so if a nobody's in custody. dozens of people in a pasco rv park have their personal information at risk. deputies say a thief broke into the barrington rv park in hudson over the weekend. that burglar stealing a safe that had credit card information for about 80 people living at that rv park. detectives are now urging the victims to monitor their credit card activity and anyone with information about this burglary is asked to call the pasco county sheriff's office. new this morning, we're waiting on an autopsy to find out exactly what caused the polk county suspect to die at the hospital just hours after he was arrested. this happened early sunday morning and deputies say they responded to a call at a florida orange center bar where

but the backup still a couple of miles. people have known about this several hours but still choose to get out there instead of bypassing it. franklin to the north or howard frankland to the south would be a better option. if you're coming via courtney campbell you will be turned around past rocky point. back to the howard frankland nor you as well. they are in the process of clearing it but it's causing somewhat of a traffic mess. it should be opened in the next hour, hour and-a-half. here's janelle with more traffic. you can see the red on the courtney campbell causeway. avoid that now for the next few minutes until they get that cleared. even though they did just open up that other eastbound lane. we're still seeing major delays. the howard frankland flowing great, both in the green in both directions. also hillsborough avenue through oldsmar, tampa road moving great as well. check out the drive time though in the eastbound lanes, pretty slow going, 38 minutes, but look at that, the howard

frankland and gandy looking great. so those are your alternates. i've been checking other bay area roads, no other major crashes or breakdowns. here's i-4 in to downtown tampa through ybor city. just about 25 minutes to get from lakeland to tampa. if the folks were traveling tampa bay traffic they would be getting through faster. we have a ways to go before sunrise, 7:41 this morning. it's going to take a while for all of us to get used to it. not just because we lost the hour of sleep but the new daylight hours that we have to contend with. what is going on? we have titan doppler radar picking up on a couple of showers that continue to stream in from southwest to northeast. st. pete getting in on that as well. crossing the bridges and getting into tampa as well. none of this will to anything heavy and sustained. we'll continue to see the showers weakening.
